SEC filingWestlake Corporation reported a Q1 2026 net loss of $169 million, impacted by $85 million in identified charges, while management highlighted margin improvements from cost reduction initiatives and the ACI acquisition.
Westlake Corporation's first quarter 2026 results reflected the initial impact of cost reduction initiatives announced in 2025, though profitability remained pressured by specific charges and market conditions. The company reported a GAAP net loss of $169 million, or $1.31 per share, a significant sequential improvement from the $544 million loss in the fourth quarter of 2025 but a decline from the $40 million loss in the prior-year period. Results included $85 million in pre-tax Identified Items, primarily a $67 million litigation settlement regarding PVC pipe and fittings and $18 million in facility shutdown charges. Excluding these items, the adjusted net loss was $100 million, or $0.77 per share.
Segment performance diverged significantly. The Housing and Infrastructure Products (HIP) segment saw sales increase 10% sequentially to $993 million, driven by seasonally higher volumes and contributions from the ACI acquisition completed in January 2026. HIP EBITDA excluding items rose to $186 million. Conversely, the Performance and Essential Materials (PEM) segment faced headwinds, with EBITDA excluding items falling to $36 million, down 55% year-over-year, impacted by lower average sales prices and higher natural gas costs early in the quarter. However, management noted that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in March led to a steepening of the global cost curve, which began benefiting PEM margins late in the quarter and is expected to continue through at least summer 2026. The company remains on track to deliver a targeted $600 million EBITDA uplift in 2026 from its three-pillar profitability improvement plan. Westlake maintains a solid liquidity position with $2.5 billion in cash and investments as of March 31, 2026.
