SEC filingQ1 revenue declined 51.9% to $37.9M due to lower thermal barrier volumes and pricing, alongside manufacturing disruptions, but losses narrowed 92.1% to -$23.7M from prior-year impairment absence while generating $32.8M free cash flow amid restructuring.
Revenue decreased 51.9% to $37.9 million in Q1 FY2026 from $78.7 million in the prior-year period, primarily driven by lower thermal barrier sales resulting from reduced volumes ordered by our OEM customer and a lower contractual component price. This volume reduction reflects broader market dynamics and our strategic realignment, while energy industrial remained resilient amid ongoing capacity management at our East Providence facility.
Gross profit fell 81.3% to $4.3 million, yielding an 11.3% margin versus prior-year levels, as lower production volumes eroded fixed cost leverage despite benefits from headcount reductions, cost-cutting measures, and lower material costs tied to reduced activity. Manufacturing costs declined overall due to these lower volumes, though partially offset by overhead allocations during a temporary plant shutdown. Gross profit as a percentage of revenue continues to be influenced by product mix, selling prices, material costs, and capacity utilization, highlighting the need for demand recovery to restore scale efficiencies.
Operating loss narrowed significantly by 93.0% to $20.8 million from $299.3 million, and net loss improved 92.1% to $23.7 million ($-0.29 diluted EPS) from $301.2 million ($-3.67 EPS). This improvement stems from the absence of the prior-year's substantial impairment charges and progress on our February 2025 restructuring plan, which realigned operations to cut costs and match capital spending to long-term demand. These efforts included reductions in research and development, operating expenses, and working capital investments, though general and administrative expenses may rise in 2026 due to East Providence disruptions like supply issues requiring mitigation.
Looking forward, thermal barrier revenues are expected to decline further in 2026 due to the factors noted, while energy industrial revenues should increase, fueled by volume growth in core petrochemical and refinery markets, project-based demand, and penetration into adjacent applications. We continue managing East Providence capacity to match aerogel product demand, balancing cost reductions with potential G&A pressures from operational disruptions.
